Why this recipe is better than the rest
- They only take 5 minutes to prep and you only need 8 simple pantry ingredients.
- It’s packed with cookies and cream and chocolate flavor, thanks to cocoa powder, mini chocolate chips and crushed Oreo cookies.
- You can customize these
Ingredients
- Cocoa Powder: you can use natural cocoa powder or dutch processed cocoa powder. Make sure that it is unsweetened though! I love Ghirardelli cocoa powder, or Hershey's dark chocolate cocoa powder.
- Maple Syrup: I recommend adding a sweetener because of the tangy Greek yogurt, but feel free to leave it out if you don’t want your Oreo overnight oats overly sweet! You could also swap this for another sweetener of choice like honey, agave syrup, brown sugar, or coconut sugar.
- Chia Seeds: this is going to provide more fiber and also help thicken up the overnight oats. I wouldn't skip on these since they add to the overall texture of your oats!
- Milk: any milk of choice works with this recipe- I've used oat milk, coconut milk, cashew milk, unsweetened almond milk, and aside from non-dairy milk, also regular cow's milk. I love using Fairlife milk for a great source of protein.
- Oats: I prefer using old-fashioned oats or rolled oats. I don’t recommend using steel cut oats in this recipe as they won't soak the liquid of correctly. Quick oats will work in a pinch, but the texture will be a bit different.
- Yogurt: I use plain or vanilla greek yogurt in my overnight oats recipes, but any yogurt will work. This will give you a boost of protein as well as creaminess!
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1: Mix together the oats, chia seeds, and cocoa powder in a jar or bowl.
Step 2: Stir the milk, Greek yogurt, and maple syrup into the dry ingredients.
Step 3: Mix in the crushed Oreos and mini chocolate chips into the oat mixture
Step 4: Cover with a lid and place in the fridge for at least 5 hours, or overnight. The next morning, give it a stir and top with extra crushed Oreos and mini chocolate chips.
Recipe Notes
- If your overnight oats seem dry the next day, add a splash of milk and mix.
- If you’re dairy-free, you can use dairy-free yogurt and dairy-free milk. Oreos are actually vegan so no need to swap those out!
- Don’t want these cookies and cream overnight oats to be overly sweet? Just leave out the maple syrup.
- If you want to meal prep these, make a big batch and store in a large container or several jars.
- I like making these in these overnight oat glass jars, but a mason jar works perfectly as well, as well as simple tupperware containers! Anything that can be stored air-tight in the fridge.
Use Different Oreos!
I love using peanut butter oreos and adding a tablespoon of peanut butter, or golden oreos and adding sprinkles and a splash of vanilla extract (leaving out the cocoa powder) to make more of a vanilla flavor. You can even use seasonal Oreos depending on the time of year. Red velvet would be great, or even mint!
Storage and Reheating Instructions
Keep the overnight oats covered in an airtight container in the fridge for 4-5 days. Mix before enjoying. You can eat these straight out of the fridge or heat in the microwave
Can be frozen for up to 2 months. To defrost, allow to sit in the fridge overnight. If the oats are dry add a splash of milk.
