We all know how much I love breakfast, and a breakfast that tastes like dessert? Sign me up! Overnight oats are one of my favorite recipes to make. Not only are they super simple to make, but they’re great for meal prep and are going to keep you full until lunch.
If you want even more creamy overnight oats recipes, you need to try my cinnamon roll overnight oats, chocolate protein overnight oats, Nutella overnight oats, and tiramisu overnight oats.
why you'll love this recipe
- Make these snickers overnight oats on a Sunday and you’ll have breakfast prepped for the whole week!
- Oats, Greek yogurt, and chia seeds are going to help keep you full until lunch.
- Get that snickers taste with a combo of crunchy peanut butter, mini chocolate chips, and a drizzle of caramel sauce.
ingredients
- Oats: be sure to use old fashioned oats or rolled oats, I don’t recommend using steel-cut oats. You can use quick oats in a pinch but the texture might change a bit.
- Creamy Peanut Butter: I love using natural, smooth peanut butter in these overnight oats because it blends really well with the oats, but you could also use regular peanut butter (like skippy or Jif). Crunchy peanut butter would also be great in this recipe!
- Cocoa Powder: I use a unsweetened natural cocoa powder in this recipe. If you want even more protein, swap out the cocoa powder for chocolate protein powder.
- Honey: You’ll want to add a little sweetness because of the Greek yogurt.
- Milk: feel free to use whatever milk you have on hand, you can use regular whole milk, plant-based milk, or really any milk of choice!
- Greek Yogurt: Gives us that creamy overnights oats texture!
- Caramel Sauce: I used stored bought caramel sauce in this recipe just for ease, but feel free to make your own.
- Chocolate Chips: Use any chocolate you love, I used semi-sweet mini chocolate chips. Dark chocolate chips would be great too, or a chopped up chocolate bar.
- Salted Peanuts: I added these on top of my overnight oats mixture to give me more of the classic snickers flavor, which I loved! Plus the crunchy peanuts add a great texture. You could also use chopped peanuts for smaller bits.
Additions and Substitutions
- Swap out the honey for brown sugar or maple syrup, or another sweetener that you love.
- If you want more of a protein boost, use chocolate protein powder instead of cocoa powder.
- You can use the quick oats if you don’t have old fashioned oats, but just note that the texture will be slightly different.
- Serve the snickers oats with my fave salted caramel cream cold brew.
step by step instructions
Step 1: Mix the oats, chia seeds, and cocoa powder together in a jar or bowl.
Step 2: Stir in the milk, greek yogurt, and honey until combined.
Step 3: Mix in the peanut butter and mini chocolate chips into the oat mixture.
Step 4: Cover with a lid and place in the fridge for at least 5 hours. The next morning or when ready to eat, give it a mix and then top with peanuts and a drizzle of caramel sauce.
Tips & Notes
- During all my testing of overnight oats, I’ve found that the longer the oats sit in the fridge the better the texture is.
- If your snickers overnight oats seem a bit dry, add a splash of milk and mix.
- If you want to meal prep these overnight oats, make a large batch and place in a large container or individual jars.
- Top with a dash of sea salt for extra flavor- I love Maldon flaky sea salt!
