This Blueberry Cheesecake Overnight Oats recipe is an amazing combination of creamy cheesecake and sweet, tart blueberries. It's a simple recipe that's flavorful, satisfying, and delicious. It feels like you're eating dessert for breakfast!
I am a sucker for anything blueberry and anything cheesecake, so this easy recipe is elite in my opinion. When testing this Blueberry Cheesecake Overnight Oats recipe, I wanted to combine all the flavors that would pop into your mind when thinking about a blueberry cheesecake- tart, juicy blueberries, creamy cheesecake, a pop of lemon, and buttery graham crackers. I wanted those but also still wanted to make sure this was a practical breakfast option. While it feels like you're eating dessert, you are actually eating a good-for-you breakfast!

why you'll love this recipe
- They're convenient- Overnight oats are a great time-saver and perfect for busy mornings. You prepare them the night before, and in the morning you have a ready-to-eat meal for an easy breakfast option.
- Minimal Prep: The prep time is minimal - it's just mixing ingredients and letting them sit in the fridge overnight.
- Balanced Meal: Overnight oats are a balanced meal with nutritious ingredients, providing fiber from oats and berries, and protein from yogurt and milk.
ingredients
- oats- I used old-fashioned or rolled oats for my overnight oats recipes. Old-fashioned oats are thicker and chewier than quick oats, which gives your overnight oats a better texture. They don't turn too mushy and maintain a good texture even overnight. They provide fiber, protein, and vitamins and minerals which is important when we are talking about breakfast! You can use quick oats in a pinch, but I definitely recommend not using steel cut oats. They would not work in this recipe.
- blueberries- You can use fresh blueberries or frozen, totally depends on what you have or prefer! I love using wild frozen blueberries, I feel like they have the best flavor compared to fresh ones. I usually buy wild frozen blueberries in a big bag to use for smoothies and other breakfast recipes.
- greek yogurt- greek yogurt adds creaminess to this recipe, as well as added protein. When testing this recipe I tried plain greek yogurt, vanilla greek yogurt, and blueberry greek yogurt- all were fantastic but I loved the addition of the blueberry flavor the most!
- cream cheese- Tangy cream cheese adds a richness and adds to that classic cheesecake flavor. I like buying the blocks of cream cheese as I find I enjoy the taste more than a tub or whipped cream cheese. You want to make sure your cream cheese is at room temperature before mixing it in so that it mixes easily. You could also pop in the microwave for a few seconds to soften it!
- lemon zest- Lemon zest is definitely not 100% needed in this recipe so feel free to leave it out, but I find it adds a pop of flavor that compliments the blueberries perfectly. You could also add a teaspoon or 2 of fresh lemon juice if wanted.
- chia seeds- These act as a thickening agent and contribute to the texture of the overnight oats. Chia seeds are rich in fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and protein. They absorb liquid and expand, creating a pudding-like consistency (like my chia breakfast bowls).
- maple syrup- I add just a bit of maple syrup for extra sweetness in my overnight oats to balance out the flavors of the greek yogurt and tart blueberries. You could leave this out completely or add more if you want it to be sweeter. You could also swap for another sweetener- I would go with honey, agave syrup, or coconut sugar.
- milk- Milk is the liquid I use to hydrate the oats and chia seeds, making them soft and ready to eat after soaking overnight. I have tested my overnight oats recipes with a ton of different types of milks- including regular cow's milk, oat milk, cashew milk, soy milk, and almond milk. All work perfectly! My favorite type of milk to use is Fairlife milk for additional protein.
- graham crackers- these are purely for fun! Graham crackers are a classic cheesecake crust taste so I figured it would be fun to add them to the top.
Additions and Substitiuons
- Make it dairy free- use dairy free alternatives like dairy-free milk, dairy-free cream cheese, and non-dairy yogurt.
- Swap the greek yogurt for cottage cheese for extra protein and a slight texture change.
- If you're looking for a high protein option, add a half to a full scoop of protein powder. I recommend using vanilla flavor!
- Don't love blueberries? Swap them for another fruit you enjoy like raspberries, blackberries, cherries, or strawberries.
Step by Step Instructions
Add the dry ingredients.
Mix in the wet ingredients.
Combine Dry Ingredients: In a jar or mixing bowl, mix together the oats and chia seeds. This ensures that the chia seeds are evenly distributed throughout the oats.
Add Wet Ingredients: Stir in your milk of choice and greek yogurt until well combined.
Incorporate Cream Cheese: Add the softened cream cheese to the mixture. Stir thoroughly to break it up for a smooth consistency.
Add mashed blueberries.
Let soak in fridge overnight.
Add Blueberries and Lemon Zest: Add the blueberries to a small bowl and mash them with a fork. Fold in the blueberries and lemon zest and make sure all ingredients are combined.
Refrigerate: Cover the mixture and refrigerate it for at least 5 hours, or overnight for the best texture. This allows the oats and chia seeds to absorb the liquid and flavors.
Serve: In the morning, give the oats a good stir. You can top them with additional fresh berries, a sprinkle of crushed graham crackers, a drizzle of honey, or extra lemon zest if desired.
Tips & Notes
- Don't skip soaking the oats- make sure to give your oats enough time in the fridge. Anything less than 5 hours won't really give you the correct texture!
- When making your overnight oats, be sure to give them a good stir, especially if you're adding protein powder. I like to add them to a jar, top with a lid, and give them a really good shake, making sure to get everything on the bottom of the jar. I also mix them again before I eat them the next morning!
- I love using these glass overnight oats jars with lids, or even just a mason jar to store my overnight oats. Having them in separate containers helps with portioning, and when I want to take them on the go.
- You can double, triple, or quadruple this recipe and make a large batch in a big bowl for meal prep. Then storing it in the fridge you can scoop a serving for yourself each morning, or portion them into separate container like I mentioned above.
Serving Suggestions
- If you're looking for a savory breakfast option, I love to pair these with cheesy scrambled eggs or a slice of my cottage cheese egg bake which I also love to meal prep at the beginning of the week.
- Looking for an overnight oats recipe with more protein? Look no further than my chocolate protein overnight oats or my high-protein overnight oats, which has 7 different flavor ideas! You could also just add a scoop of protein powder to this recipe to get extra protein in your breakfast.
Storage Instructions
- Overnight oats can be stored in an airtight container for 3-4 days.
- They can be eaten cold straight out of the fridge, or warmed up in the microwave.
- You can freeze overnight oats after they have absorbed all of the liquid overnight. To defrost, let sit in the fridge. You may need to add extra liquid and mix again before enjoying.
