This easy Cookie Dough Overnight Oats means you can finally have that irresistible flavor of cookie dough for breakfast!
As a breakfast recipe developer, I love creating fun (and easy!) breakfast recipes that are a breeze to make. These cookie dough overnight oats are just that, plus they only take 5 minutes to prep! They really help curb my chocolate chip cookie dough cravings.
For all my cookie lovers out there, if you love sweet breakfasts like my snickers overnight oats, brown sugar overnight oats, cinnamon roll overnight oats, or Oreo overnight oats, then you’re going to love these cookie dough overnight oats!
My other favorite overnight oat recipes are banana chia overnight oats, almond butter overnight oats, and pumpkin spice overnight oats.
why you'll love this recipe
- You only need 7 simple ingredients, nothing too fancy here.
- Thanks to brown sugar, vanilla extract, and mini chocolate chips, this tastes just like chocolate chip cookie dough!
- You can easily meal prep these overnight oats so you have the perfect make-ahead breakfast ready for the week.
- If you’re like me and have a sweet tooth, this is the perfect breakfast for you.
ingredients
- Oats: make sure to use rolled oats or old-fashioned oats. These are going to give you the base of the overnight oats and make them chewy. Gluten-free? You can use gluten-free oats! Just make sure to not use steel-cut oats, they don't absorb liquid the same and will give you a funky texture.
- Greek Yogurt: greek yogurt will give you that creamy texture we are looking for in overnight oats. I typically use non-fat plain greek yogurt!
- Chia Seeds: chia seeds are going to thicken up the overnight oats, plus they’re packed with fiber!
- Brown Sugar: we can’t have cookie dough flavor without brown sugar! It is what we are using as our main sweetener in this overnight oatmeal.
- Milk: you can use regular whole milk, almond milk, oat milk or whatever type of milk you like! I usually use Fairlife milk or unsweetened almond milk.
- Vanilla Extract: I recommend adding a dash of vanilla extract to help give you that cookie dough flavor.
- Mini Chocolate Chips: I love adding semi-sweet mini chocolate chips to these cookie dough overnight oats. You could also use cacao nibs or dark chocolate chips.
Additions and Substitutions
- Don’t have brown sugar on hand? Swap it out for maple syrup, coconut sugar, or honey.
- You can use quick oats instead of rolled oats/old fashioned oats in a pinch. I have found the texture changes with quick oats so keep that in mind!
- Add a scoop of vanilla protein powder to these and mix well to get an extra boost for your busy mornings.
step by step instructions
Step 1: In a bowl or jar, whisk together the oats, brown sugar, and chia seeds.
Step 2: Stir in the milk, greek yogurt, and vanilla extract until fully mixed together.
Step 3: Mix in the mini chocolate chips.
Step 4: Cover with a lid and place in the fridge for at least 5 hours. The next morning, give them a stir and top with extra chocolate chips and cookie dough bites before enjoying! You could also top with a pinch of salt (flaky of course)!
Tips & Notes
- If your overnight oats seem a bit dry, add an extra splash of milk in the morning and mix.
- The vanilla extract is key to get that chocolate chip cookie dough taste, but if you don't have it on hand you can leave it out! You could also add almond extract if you enjoy that flavor!
- Looking for actual edible cookie dough? Try my edible sugar cookie dough! You can also buy little cookie dough bites like the ones I have on mine. I found these at Wegmans grocery store. I don't advise using actual raw cookie dough though (we don't want to get sick after breakfast)!
- If you need this cookie dough oatmeal to be dairy-free, just use dairy-free chocolate chips, milk and yogurt.
Serving Suggestions
For the perfect filling breakfast, pair these with a savory meal like my freezer breakfast sandwiches, cottage cheese egg bake, cheesy scrambled eggs, or veggie egg white cups.
Storage and Reheating Instructions
- Store these overnight oats in the fridge for 4-5 days, just give it a good stir before enjoying. Overnight oats can be eaten cold straight from the fridge or warmed up in the microwave.
