Recipe Ingredients
Here are some notes on a few ingredients- please see the full ingredient list in the recipe card below!
- Bagel: use your favorite bagel flavor, I love an everything bagel or an onion bagel!
- Bacon: if you’re a vegetarian you can easily find vegetarian ‘bacon’ at your grocery store.
- Lettuce: I like using Bibb lettuce, but romaine, spinach, or green leaf salad also works here. Looking for a more peppery flavor? Try using arugula!
- Tomatoes: I recommend using heirloom or beefsteak tomatoes, that way you can cut big and thick slices. Finding them at the farmer’s market when it’s tomato season is going to be your best bet to get the perfect tomato!
- Cream Cheese: for that classic BLT bagel flavor, use regular cream cheese. You can use other flavors like garlic and herb (my favorite!).
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Place a frying pan on your stove over medium heat. Add the bacon and cook until completely cooked through, flipping halfway. Place the cooked bacon strips on a paper towel-lined plate.
Step 2: Toast your bagel (optional) and spread the cream cheese on the bottom half of the bagel.
Step 3: Assemble the rest of the BLT, placing the bacon, lettuce, and tomato on top of the bottom half of the bagel. Place the top half on top and serve.
Frequently Asked Questions
A BLT bagel is just like the classic BLT sandwich but on a bagel instead of regular sliced bread! It comprises crispy bacon, fresh lettuce, and a juicy tomato slice.
Feel free to use whatever bagel you prefer, you could use a plain bagel, everything, onion, or whole wheat bagel.
Tips and Tricks
- You can have your bagel toasted or untoasted, it’s totally up to you what you prefer!
- If you’re making these BLT bagels for a crowd, it’ll be easier to cook the bacon in the oven than in a frying pan. Preheat your oven to 400°Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with foil. Lay the bacon strips on top and cook for 15-20 minutes. Remove them to a paper towel-lined plate.
- Add more toppings like avocado, a fried egg, or some hot sauce!
- Serve this BLT bagel with fresh fruit or veggies on the side.
Storing & Freezing
This bagel sandwich is best served immediately. If you want to make it in advance, I would prep all the ingredients and assemble the sandwich right before eating.
