Warm & Cozy Spiced Maple Syrup

This homemade spiced maple syrup is an easy way to take your breakfast to the next level. Made with pure maple syrup, whole cinnamon sticks, star anise, cloves, and fresh orange zest, this infused syrup has a warm, cozy flavor that tastes like fall in a jar. Simply add everything to a saucepan, let it simmer for 5 minutes, and strain out the spices. Drizzle this fragrant maple syrup over pancakes, waffles, or french toast for a delicious breakfast or brunch treat.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 teaspoon wholes cloves
  • 2 strips of orange zest taken with vegetable peeler
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, combine the maple syrup, cinnamon, star anise, cloves, orange strips, and salt.

  • Bring to a simmer over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer gently for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove from the heat and allow the mixture to cool completely in the pan.
  • Strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer, and discard the spices. Pour the syrup into a glass jar and store in the fridge until ready to use

Notes

  • Reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop.
  • Makes roughly ¾ cup of syrup.
